Sarah and Sam met in college. From swim team, to long distance dating, these two have been looking forward to their summer wedding for nearly a year! Set in the beautiful mountainside of Big Cottonwood Canyon, they chose Solitude Ski Resort as their venue. And not just any lodge would do, they wanted the mountains! Guests took the ski lift up to their ceremony site, and it was breathtaking.
An aspen alter sat between two aisles, beautifully decorated in flowers. Surrounding the ceremony site, was the beautiful landscape of Solitude Ski Resort. It was picture perfect. That is, until Mother Nature had a different idea. In the midst of Sarah and Sam saying their vows to each other, the sky opened up and rain came pouring down. After a quick consultation with the couple, the officiant decided to put the ceremony on hold. Everyone ran for cover over at the ski lifts, and we marveled at the rain pummeling down.
I definitely don’t think this is the way that Sarah and Sam pictured their big cottonwood wedding in July, but what a story! Once the rain subsided, we were able to run back out and finish the ceremony. Despite the rain setback, a smile never left Sarah’s face. She was marrying the love of her life, and a rain wasn’t going to stop that! That’s what I love about capturing couples who are truly in love. Nothing can stop them from having the best day ever, because at the end of it, all that matters is the two of them becoming husband and wife!
Following the ceremony, guests were wined and dined at the Sunbeam Lodge with delicious food and drink! Sarah had picked out lots of greenery to decorate the tables, and mood setting candles were mixed in to add a beautiful ambiance. Sarah’s father gave an epic father of the bride speech that had everyone laughing! Not only that, but he rapped an Eminem song too! A first dance that was as sweet as can be, was followed by guests dancing the night away! It was everything you want a wedding to be – full of love, fun, laughter, and unexpected surprises.
Sarah and Sam, thank you so much for the honor of capturing your special day! It was a joy to get to know your family and friends, and witnessing your love for each other is inspiring. I hope your wedding day was everything you hoped for and more! I can’t wait to hear about your Alaskan honeymoon!
