FAQ: Frequently Asked Questions What to Know When Hiring A Wedding Photographer

Selecting and hiring a wedding photographer is a BIG decision! Your wedding photos are one of the only things left after a wedding. They are what you and your posterity will look back on for generations and generations. Since you (hopefully) only pick a wedding photographer one time, it is totally normal to have questions about how everything works.

So what is important when you are narrowing down your search for a wedding photographer? You want to hire someone whose photos you love of course, but also someone whose personality will mix well with yours. I want all ADP couples to be informed and 100% confident in hiring me as their wedding photographer, so I’ve made a list of the most frequently asked questions (FAQ). Reading through these questions will help you get a better idea of my photography style, my booking process, and what it’s like to work with me!

How Long Have You Been in Business? How Many Weddings Have You Photographed?

I have been in business since March 2014, and I have been lucky to work with 250+ wonderful couples! Of those weddings, 70% of them have been traditional weddings and 30% of them have been LDS temple sealing + reception weddings. Working in Utah has allowed me the opportunity to photograph many different types of weddings, and each of them is so unique and special!

What is Your Personality Like?

If you are familiar with the personality types, I am an INFJ, which is a pretty rare personality type. I am very intuitive and can read situations easily. I bring a calm, organized presence to your wedding day. I am great at anticipating what you need next – whether it be some space to relax and take in the moment, or someone to amp you up and make you feel confident.

My clients love that I am awesome at taking charge. I am assertive with getting people to listen and cooperate for large group photos. I am also a mom of two, so I know all the best tricks for getting little kids to like me and smile for photos. When I am hired to be your wedding photographer, I am not just another vendor. I want to become your friend, someone you know you can rely on, and someone you can trust with the biggest day of your life.

What is Your Photography Style?

My style is very colorful, romantic, and timeless. I aim to deliver photos that are perfectly exposed, while lending a little bit of lightness to bring about a dreamy quality to them. You’ll see that my colors are vibrant, true-to-color, and give off a warm happy feeling. I want you to look back at your photos and feel joy!

I know my clients are not super models with an innate sense of how to pose, so I am very verbal at photo sessions. I’ll tell you exactly how to pose to make you look picture perfect, and then I’ll let you guys melt into those pose a little with prompts or directions that bring about natural emotions and interactions. It’s posed, but better, because the photos come out showing the truth of your relationship rather than some overly posed photo.

Above all, my photos focus on people! Beautiful venues, amazing florals, and a stunning wedding dress are all lovely, and of course so fun to photograph! But, a wedding day is about more than just the pretty details. It is about the people! It is about the union of two people, their families, and all the people who supported them on their way to the altar. I’ll be sure to capture all the typical posed portraits, but I’ll also capture candids of all your favorite people, and I promise you’ll cherish those special little moments!

What Equipment Do You Shoot With?

I shoot with Canon lenses and cameras. I dual shoot almost all my sessions, and what this means, is that I have a harness on my body that holds two different cameras. My current equipment lineup is two Canon R6 Cameras – usually one camera with a 28-70 2.0 lens, and the other camera with a 85mm lens. Having both of these cameras and lenses on my body and ready means I always have the perfect lens to capture the perfect moment. The 28-70mm lens allows me to capture wide landscape/environmental shots (like of your venue or ceremony), and then quickly zoom in to focus on a special moment. The 85mm lens allows me to capture stunning portraits with a beautifully blurred background.

My other lenses include: 70-200mm lens (great for zooming in on faces during ceremonies), 100mm macro lens (perfect for unclose ring shots), and my backup lenses are a 35mm and 50mm. With this range of lenses, I can comfortably and beautifully capture every single moment of a wedding day. When shooting indoors, I have plenty of on and off camera flashes to light even the darkest of rooms, and make it look beautiful.

What is the Booking Process Like?

I am ready to book you as my wedding photographer – now what? First off, yay! I am so excited and I will for sure do a little happy dance! Second, I’ll gather all the important information from you so I can send over the contract. I’ll need details like your fiance’s first/last name, fiance’s email, your venue, wedding date, month you want to take engagement photos, etc. Once I have all the details, then I’ll send over a contract for both you and your fiance to sign!  Once that is signed, you’ll pay your retainer fee, and then we’ll be all set!

How Are the Photos Delivered? What is the Turnaround Timeframe?

All photos are delivered digitally via an online gallery. It is such a smooth easy process, and it makes it so you get your photos back even sooner, compared to waiting for a USB in the mail. Your privacy is of the utmost concern to me. I password protect all my galleries and also require a pin to download the images. This ensures that your photos are accessed only by you!

The turnaround for engagement and formal session photos is 10 days or less, and the turnaround time for weddings is 6-8 weeks. I aim to deliver the photos as fast as possible, because I know how much fun it is to relive your special day through your photos. A common praise I get from past ADP couples is that my editing time is super fast, and that is something they greatly appreciate!
