I’m so excited to be sharing Lauren and Matt’s proposal story at the Utah State Capitol with you today! I love that photographing and capturing proposals is a thing these days! Not only is it so fun to be in on the surprise and planning of proposal, but the expressions are unmatched! Lauren was so dang happy! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a happier, more smiley person than Lauren right after the proposal! Those are the moments that deserve to be documented!

Lauren and Matt’s love story starts back in college where they first met, on the campus of Louisiana Tech University. Since then they’ve been doing the long distance thing. Matt in law school and the Army, and Lauren working as a news anchor and fulfilling her duties at Miss Louisiana USA. To make the distance easier, weekend trips have become a common occurrence for the couple. On this particular trip, Matt had a work conference here in Salt Lake City, and Lauren flew in to join him. Unfortunately Lauren fell ill to food poisoning and the trip ended up being a lot of laying down and resting. Sunday morning Matt told Lauren they had to good to a work breakfast thing at the Utah State Capitol. Luckily by then Lauren was feeling better, and they both got ready for the day.

Matt and I had decided on the perfect location for the proposal, and I was just waiting for them to walk up to the designated spot. I had thought they’d be walking along the path, but lo and behold they come walking up behind me. I hurried and pretended to be taking pictures of the scenery and moved over to the side. Luckily, I don’t think Lauren suspected a thing! They kept walking towards the capitol, and then it was time! Matt kneeled down, said a few words, and asked Lauren to marry him. Before she said yes, I heard her say “Are you serious?! and that made me smile haha. A “YES!!” followed shortly after, along with the cutest smiles of joy!

After the proposal we took a quick walk around the capitol to get some “just engaged” engagement photos! And then I let these two love birds go off and enjoy their morning in all their happy bliss! Lauren and Matt, I’m so so happy for you two, and I’m so happy I could be there to capture this special moment. I wish you both all the best with your wedding planning and your future together!!
