The number one thing I always recommend to my brides: Book a professional hair and makeup artist!! As a photographer, professional hair and makeup makes my job sooo much easier! On top of that, those professionals really know what they are doing to make you look your best in photos and in person! Today I’ve invited the lovely Heather Dear Artistry over to my corner of the internet, so she can share 4 reasons as to why you should definitely, 100% book a professional hair and makeup artist for your wedding!
1. Look like the best version of yourself!
I always consult with my clients on their daily routine, what their vision is for their wedding, and then customize a beautiful look just for them. You want to look and feel like the best version of yourself on your wedding day. If you are normally all glammed up, then a va-va-voom wedding look makes sense. If you are more of a fresh face and a pony tail girl, then a subtle and beautiful makeup look will be a perfect fit. It is our job to ensure that your bridal hair and makeup is all about enhancing your natural beauty, and picking the right colors, shades, and hairstyles that accentuate your best features. The beauty of hair and makeup is you can have fun with it and make it your own! A professional artist will help you feel like YOU, and ensure that you look your best!
2. Professional products + proper application techniques = longer lasting results.
Professional hair and makeup artists use a variety of high-end products, and know what is going to last the longest and look the best on each individual. I always consult with my clients on their skin type, because primers, foundations, and powders all perform differently on different skin types. Dry skin and oily skin will need very different types of makeup and application to ensure their longevity. Those who have combination skin will also need a variety of products placed on the right areas for a customized, long lasting look. In the same way, different hair products will give different results. For example, one finishing spray will give fluidity and bounce to curls, while another will lock down intricate updos and pesky fly-aways. This knowledge of strategic application and use of the right tools will add longevity so that your look stays place.
3. Professional makeup looks better in photos!
Technique is super important for photo-ready makeup. In fact, makeup tends to look 30% lighter in photos, so proper application and color saturation is a must. When it comes to photos, you want your makeup to give your face definition. Shadows and highlights in all the right places are key. Contrast and definition are important while contouring the face and eyes. As you can see in the photos below, the client’s own makeup application looks flat and dull. When you compare that to the professional makeup, you can see tons of beautiful definition. There are also some makeup products should be avoided, because they contain ingredients that give “flash back” in photos. This means you will have a white cast or look paler in photos wherever those products were applied. Your professional makeup artist will know which products to use (and not use) so that you look your best!

4. Feel pampered, stress free, and confident!
You should be treated like a queen on your wedding day! During the chaos of the day, you shouldn’t feel the added pressure of doing your own hair and makeup! On the most photographed day of your life, you don’t want to leave your hair and makeup up to chance, and risk it not turning out. Hiring a professional on your wedding day will lower your stress, and give you much needed time to relax. Most importantly, being taken care of by a pro will boost your confidence! Feeling and looking you best will give you confidence that translates through to your photos. Your wedding day is definitely a time to “treat yo self”!
